Summary
At 15–16 in 2004, he began Star Wars Galaxies with his father paying its £10 monthly fee, soon playing obsessively. Its sandbox supported combat, farming, shops, player-built towns, decorated homes, roleplay, and a close-knit social community unavailable in Guild Wars. Six months of Jedi grinding led to bounty-hunting, master piloting, guild warfare, and finally World of Warcraft after Sony’s destructive overhaul.
Insight
Nostalgia centers on community and belonging, while he recognizes that obsessive gaming once displaced nearly everything else.
