Update on my New Garden Summer House

The garden house now has a roof; completion may take months, and he hopes to be home for its tour. He mourns the demolished grandfather-built chicken shed, present for over twenty years of his life and perhaps fifty years overall. He imagines living in the small building, weighing privacy and comfort against loneliness, partnership, social life, and travel.

A new home briefly replaces Japan and Europe as an escape fantasy, but isolation remains its acknowledged cost.
