Why I hated teaching English in Japan

In 2011, about 30 weekly hours at Lawson and an izakaya covered rent, food, and socialising, but enabled little saving. A female Ikebukuro student gave one-word answers, left after 20 minutes claiming a friend needed her, paid ¥500, and embarrassed him. A friendly 2014 student restored his confidence through five weekly ¥1,500 lessons, yet he remains unpassionate and unsure teaching suits him.

Teaching exposed his dependence on talkative partners and difficulty sustaining unfamiliar social interaction.
